Today was the first day of my Animation Summer Camp. It went pretty well except that one of the kids was distracting everyone and making them not work, while he was also not working. So half the class couldn’t get much done today. Then I went up to work at my actual job for a few hours to offset the time I’m missing this week.

Today’s menu included:
– double chocolate muffin
– Energy Shake
– Chili with beans and a salad
– lasagna with meat sauce, veggies, pita and hummus

Muffin was tasty, though I had to rush to eat it because of camp starting.

Chili was okay. But wasn’t hot enough after the instructed amount of time in the microwave.

Lasagna was okay too. But I’m not really looking forward to having it again since I did actually pick it as some of my dinner entrees this month.

Ending the day around 1300 calories. Hooray!

Today’s menu included:
– harvest nut bar
– Energy Shake
– spicy Kung Pao noodles
– Craving Shake
– Thick Crust Pizza and veggies

The bar was decent.

Noodles were spicy as promised but nothing crazy. Though not all the liquid was absorbed by the noodles so I had to drink it.

Pizza was about the same as yesterday’s, just rectangular instead of round.

Went to the gym after D&D and then grocery shopping for more veggies.

Around 1000 calories for the day. That should offset my transgression last night.

Today’s menu included:
– Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola bar
– Energy Shake
– Loaded Baked Potato meal and salad
– Craving Shake and veggies
– Thick Crust Pizza and veggies

The granola bar was definitely chewy as listed.

The baked potato was actually really tasty. I’ll be ordering it next month for sure.

The pizza was about a 5″ diameter. Was kinda fun to put together though. And tasted good. But not filling at all.

My friend’s birthday party was that night so that was a hard time. But I didn’t drink alcohol or soda. Just water. However, I was starving around 10pm and ordered a whole wheat chicken quesadilla. It was huge and I felt awful after eating it. But full.

I was hanging out with Keith all night at the party and at the end we talked awhile about heavier stuff. He told me that it’s unreasonable to just completely change my eating habits overnight. It’ll take time. And that beating myself up about eating something when I’m starving is silly. I’ll get better over time at this diet thing. It takes a level of willpower that I just don’t have yet.

I will try to hit the gym again on Sunday though.

I ended the day with 950 on-diet calories. And a mystery amount from the whole wheat quesadilla.

Today’s menu included:
– Cinnamon Bun Bar
– Energy Shake
– White Bean Chicken Chili and a salad
– Craving Shake and veggies
– Chicken Alfredo and veggies

The cinnamon bun bar was pretty tasty, but a little oddly textured. Probably from the extra fiber and protein and stuff they add.

I got my new shaker bottle this morning, so now I have one small one for the shakes and the large one for water at work.

The chili was spicier than I’d like. So I had to have some almond milk to offset it.

I stayed late at work to preemptively make up some of the hours I’ll miss next week while I’m working at the summer camp.

Then went to the gym again to do some uphill walking on the treadmill.

The chicken alfredo was pretty good. It was a grayish color though. But alfredo is rarely an appetizing color, I’ve learned.

Ending the day around 1300 calories.

Today’s menu includes:
– Blueberry Muffin
– Energy Shake
– Cheese Tortellini
– Craving Shake
– Chicken Alfredo

The muffin seemed slightly larger today. But very sticky. And it had maybe 4 blueberries in it.

The cheese tortellini was about the size of a Chef Boyardee container but much tastier.

I brought sugar snap peas, mushrooms, and cucumber slices with dip for my veggie snack. And a small spinach salad to go with lunch.

I had every intention of eating the Chicken Alfredo for dinner but I had a bad experience at the doctor tonight and then went to see Wolfe. Talked about my problems a bit with him then went to Red Robin from there. BUT. I got a burger with a whole grain bun, no mayo, and broccoli instead of fries, which only puts me 400 calories over for the day. Not terrible. I do feel very full and satisfied though and pretty guilty for going off diet already. But I made good choices and I’ve been craving a burger all week. Also, I feel very heavy after eating that so I won’t be doing that again for awhile. Already, my body is adjusting to the new food intake so I can tell that going off diet will just make me feel crummy. But now I know first hand. At least we did walk the mall a bit so that was some exercise.

I will do better tomorrow.

I’ve gained a lot of weight in the last couple years. So much that I am now 50 pounds overweight. In order to take control of my weight and my life, I’ve started Nutrisystem. Today is Day 1 of the program and of my Fast5, the first week jumpstart to lose up to 5 pounds in 7 days.

Today’s menu includes:
– Cinnamon Streusel Muffin
– Energy Shake
– Three Cheese Chicken
– Craving Shake
– Chicken Pot Pie

I added a Greek yogurt for breakfast because the muffin was so tiny, and I’m allowed 3 “powerfuels” a day, which includes yogurt. Though I’m unsure if I’m allowed yogurt during the Fast5, so I’ll try to be better about that.

The Energy shake is pretty decent. Better than some protein shakes I’ve had. It does have a tangy aftertaste though.

The Three Cheese Chicken was basically like a Cup of Soup meal. But it wasn’t bad.

I brought a Green Giant pack of frozen vegetables in light sauce for 3 of my 4 veggie servings for the day.

The Craving shake is smoother than the Energy shake. And doesn’t have the aftertaste.

I then did 30 minutes of walk/jog/running on the treadmill at the gym.

The Chicken Pot Pie was pretty tasty.

I also went to the store after the gym today and bought a bunch of healthy stuff. So I then had sugar snap peas, mushrooms, and sliced cucumbers with Greek yogurt veggie dip as my 4th vegetable of the day, and possibly 5th or 6th.

Ending the day at about 1300 calories. Over the program amount, but much less than my normal intake and mostly in healthy stuff. Also I’ve already had about 10 servings of water today.

Hooray!

Last night was pretty awesome. Went to the shooting range again with Irish, AngryGinger, and Gadget. I kept having terrible luck with guns jamming and misfiring. I don’t know if it was me or the guns but I went back to a Sig instead and had better luck. Still jammed but not as bad. And at least the clip was a lot easier to load than the others. They clearly don’t clean their guns properly at all. But here’s the results with the Sig:

I’m pretty proud of this. And I did it pretty quickly too cuz the place was closing in a minute.

Afterward, we went to get drinks and food at Applebees since they were doing their Saint Practice Day specials, it being the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day and all. We got green beer and boneless wings.

And of course after a pitcher of green Yuengling, I had to grab a green margarita… Which are normally green in color but oh well, tequila!

Overall, a fantastic way to start the irishest week of the year.

Pro Tip #2

When a girl mentions in passing that she’s not into all that cliche Valentine’s Day stuff… ignoring it is usually a safe bet.

Case in point:
While talking to Irish a few weeks ago, I had mentioned my Valentine’s Day experience from last year, including how Jay had gotten me everything – teddy bear, balloon, flowers, card, chocolates, etc. – because I had never gotten any of that stuff before. But in that case, it was too little, too late. Damage had been done to the relationship that just couldn’t be undone with cute or tasty gifts.

Well even after hearing that, I received an edible arrangement, teddy bear, and balloon at work yesterday. It was awesome and I was squeeing like a fool. Unfortunately it was after 5 so most people had gone home, but I still texted some friends and ran to my girl upstairs to have a girly squealing fit together. And to share a chocolate covered piece of fruit.

I had already received a box of chocolates from Irish that he had AngryGinger grab for him, and I figured that was all I’d be getting. I was wrong. And I’m glad I was.

Also, when he was making the steaks for dinner (so very delicious), I checked my email and saw he had sent me a gift certificate for Squishable.com so that I can get myself a fox when it comes back in stock. I started squeeing again and ran over and hugged him for ages. It was awesome.

So the safest bet when it comes to Valentine’s, or really any holiday, is to get your girl something small at least, just to show you care. Even if it’s just a card. But if you think she’s more receptive, then go bigger, because it will be appreciated, and you will get hella brownie points.

Even is she says she doesn’t want to exchange gifts, you should still get her something. Saying that you’re not going to get each other gifts on a holiday for financial reasons or something is a TRAP. Better safe than sorry, and in this case it’s better to err on the side of giving too much, to an extent of course. Keep it sweet and simple.

Quick Hit

Just wanted to do a quick post before I leave for the day. And I just finished up a project today that’s called a “quick hit”, hence the post title.

Monday morning I woke up sick. And I mean siiiick…. It was pretty terrible. I had apparently eaten something bad on Sunday. I didn’t even leave the bathroom all morning and still went to work, then was sent home after my work for the day got distributed to others and I finished whatever I had to do then. I only got docked 4 hours and that’s out of my sick time anyway, so it’s fine.

Irish was off for MLK day and I got him to hit CVS for some Imodium and Powerade. Granted, he went out of his way and got himself lunch while he was out, even though CVS is 2 minutes from our house and I was miserable…. but anyway…

I slept and laid around all day and he played Red Dead Redemption, ignored me and my pain, and enjoyed his day off. I felt like I was imposing on him or something, since he didn’t get to have the house to himself as he wanted.

I had found all 4 Resident Evil movies recently, so we watched the first 2 that night. They were better than expected. I was afraid I wouldn’t sleep well because of them though, but I was fine. Slept like a rock in fact. And thankfully so, cuz I woke up feeling better, not 100%, but better. I went to work, ate weird “safe” foods, and muddled through.

I’m feeling a lot better now though. And although I don’t want to cut this short, it’s 5pm, and I’m outta here.

Later.

After that whole fandango went down, we were talking about our previous Valentine experiences. I told him how until last year, I hadn’t had the stereotypical gifts on V-Day (candy, card, balloon, bear, etc.), but Jay changed that. And it was stupid and terrible. Also, it was made worse by the fact that I didn’t love him anymore, but that’s beside the point.

I mentioned that other than the gifts, I couldn’t remember V-Day being all that good with Jay. Then he said, “I think WE were together on Valentine’s Day.” This was a huge memory shock. I had almost forgotten about that. We went to Don Pablos for dinner and had the Fajitas for Two Valentine’s Special (which I found amusing, and now ironic) and then we saw Percy Jackson: Lightning Thief. I remember using AngryGinger as my cover story since Jay hated the mere idea of Irish, let alone me being alone with him. And for good reason I guess.

So here we are, and we’ve come full circle. I’m a college grad now, I’m no longer on psych meds, I’m employed at a good company that is actually 9-5, we’re living together, and he’s finally learning to be a boyfriend, kinda.

Life isn’t perfect. It’s an adventure.
